This is an exploration of the winter landscape. There will be a discussion on how to exploit the unique nature of a snow and ice covered landscape.

We will be shooting at various locations around the Lakes region of southern New Hampshire, less than two hours from Boston.

Winter Wonderland Workshop

Date: February 25, 2017

Duration: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm

Max participants: 14

Fee: $550 Student: $450 (discount applied at checkout)

Instructor: Greg Marinovich

Location: Lakes Region, New Hampshire

We will meet at our base in New Hampshire. Those who need transport up from Cambridge are welcome to contact us, though seating will be limited. The presentation and the discussion beforehand will be on how best to handle the difficulties, and how to make the most of snow and ice photography in a rural setting. We will have coffee or tea and then head off to various nearby sites that offer great opportunities to shoot.

You are free to explore the area, either on the lands we have access to, including hundreds of acres of private and public land; or drive more widely in search of a different type of image.

The instructor(s) will be in the field, sharing experiences with the participants, but you are free to head off on your own.

You will leave with a collection of images, either in digital format or mysteriously hidden on your film.

Who is this workshop suited to?

This course is perfect for photographers from beginner to advanced, as you can use the opportunity and camaraderie to find a way of digging deep into the landscape as well as yourself to make images that are meaningful. You might be a working photographer looking to recharge your vision, or someone who wants to really take your photography up a level.

What will your day look like?

9:00 AM: We will meet at our designated base in the Lakes Region, New Hampshire.

Here, we will have a presentation on the objectives of the workshop and on understanding the unique challenges and pleasures of photographing a New England winter.

Lunch: we may meet at a restaurant to warm up and exchange notes, or you are free to keep shooting.

We will meet at the base at 5:00 PM, when the light has just about left us. This will allow participants time to get home at a reasonable hour.

Minimum Requirements

Every participating photographer is expected to have reasonable competence, and should have a working understanding of exposure, aperture, and shutter speeds on a technical and aesthetic basis.

You may bring digital or film cameras of any format.

Ensure you are prepared for possible severe winter conditions: adequate and layered clothing, good, waterproof boots, gloves, extra socks, shoes, sweater(s), emergency medical kit, emergency blanket, a mobile phone with extra battery, flashlight. If you want to really explore the woods, snowshoes might be a good option - best to not do this alone.

Ensure your vehicle is well prepared, with at least half a tank of fuel by the time you reach the base (which is along a main road).
