Street Photography Workshop

Date:June 17, 2017

Duration: 1:00pm - 8:00 pm

Max participants: 10

Fee: $350 Student: $250 (discount applied at checkout)

Instructor: Greg Marinovich

Location:Variable

We will investigate what makes great street photography, and how the virtuosos of the oeuvre have claimed their place in history. We will discuss the psychology and practice of this rarefied art form. Presetting your camera is essential to success. Motor drives are frowned upon; single shot mode acknowledged with a respectful nod.

Participants will shoot in various outdoor locations (preselected by the instructor, or a place of your choice).

Feel free to bring a digital or analog camera that you are comfortable using.

We have a range of analog large, medium or 35mm format cameras to use (film not included). Reservations required.

Who is this workshop suited to?

This workshop is suitable for both intermediate and competent photographers who want to experiment with shooting on the street. You must be able to shoot in mixed and low light.

What will your day look like?

1:00pm - 3:00pm

The group will meet for a discussion of the genre, with a presentation of various works. There will be a range of tips and techniques discussed.

3:00pm - 8:00pm

As the light gets more interesting, we will take to the streets at one of several pre-selected destinations, or feel free to head off on your own.

The workshop is timed so that you are on the streets as day passes to night, and your skills are increasingly put to the test.

The shoot ends at 8pm.

Minimum requirements

Every participating photographer is expected to have reasonable competence, and should have a working understanding of exposure, aperture, and shutter speeds on a technical and aesthetic basis. Experience of shooting in low light will be helpful.

Bring a digital or an analog film camera of your choice. While most street photography is done with 35mm cameras, you can look at a wide variety of analog cameras in several formats that will be available for rent, with prior booking.
