Pre-Election Walkabout
Date: November 5 & 6, 2016
Duration: 11:00am - 6:00 pm EST
Max participants: 10
Fee: $150
Instructor: Greg Marinovich
Location: To be Determined
Minimum Requirements: Every participating photographer is expected to have reasonable competence, and should have a working understanding of exposure, aperture, and shutter speeds on a technical and aesthetic basis. Experience of shooting in low light will be helpful.
Exchange ideas and thoughts with Greg and your fellow photographers as you search for images of one of the most interesting elections of recent decades. Artistic and creative guidance on occasion, but it is not a workshop – rather it is about the camaraderie as we go on a quest for social and political moments!
Greg has been covering the primaries and the campaign in an eclectic way, chiefly focusing on the people who have made Donald Trump their champion.
We will meet at a pre-determined location in either Massachusetts or neighboring New Hampshire (we will decide closer to the time, depending on what Greg feels will work out best).
Feel free to bring either digital or film cameras, in any format you choose. While Greg will be shooting for himself, he will engage with everyone on a one-on-one basis through the day.
Wear comfortable and weather resistant shoes and clothing, and be aware that the weather changes rapidly in New England.
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP SUITED TO?
This workshop is suitable for both intermediate and competent photographers who want to experiment with shooting on the street. You must be able to shoot in mixed and low light.
WHAT WILL YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE?
11:00am - 6:00pm
The group will meet to discuss the day, with a few tips and techniques on offer.
As the light gets more interesting, we will take to the streets in two groups so we are not tripping over each other, or feel free to head off on your own.
The workshop is timed so that you are on the streets as day passes to evening, and your skills are increasingly put to the test.
Depending on how interesting the shooting is, we might break for refreshments and a chat about what we are encountering. If we find a good place for a meal, we might take advantage of this.
The shoot ends at 6pm.
Bring a digital or an analog film camera of your choice. While most street photography is done with 35mm cameras, you can look at a wide variety of analog cameras in several formats that will be available for rent, with prior booking.
