This is an intermediate course that will elevate your skills.

You'll delve into advanced exposure techniques, composition strategies, and the impact different format cameras can have.

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to deepen your photographic expertise and explore more sophisticated aspects of film photography. It's the ideal next step for those already familiar with the basics.

Our focus will be on medium format cameras. We provide you with a medium-format camera, or you can bring your own. We believe that medium format is a natural progression in your photography journey, and we are excited to introduce you to this experience.

We limit our numbers to small classes so that we can respond to the needs of each group, so below is a broad outline of what you can expect. We will adjust the class as needed.

What will your day look like?

Morning:

We start with a refresher of the fundamental mechanics of film photography, after which we dive into the different options available. Our focus will be on Medium Format cameras and how they differ from 35mm. We explore various medium format cameras, discussing their advantages and disadvantages to help you choose the right one for your needs.

We talk a bit about the basic principles of composition and then we put into practice these new skills by working with the available light in the immediate environment.

Afternoon:

You’ll learn how to load film into your selected camera and then head out into the neighborhood to capture images, with instructors available for guidance.

We will guide you through different light metering techniques, and after the shoot, we’ll gather for a debrief to discuss the experience.

Your films will be collected for processing and scanning. A follow-up meeting will be held on Zoom within 1-3 weeks to review the results of your shoot and discuss feedback and insights as a group.
